Big accepts no government aid but rather survives off the sales of their efforts and donations from friends like you!

So please enter and enjoy what we have come to offer you.

Brookwood and BIG both started from efforts of highly motivated mothers.

These women could not stand to see their disabled children end up in the current offerings of state facilities and private corporations. The much more recent BIG effort began in a garage making crafts. Next, a local church donated their facilities for several years. Finally, the program grew so much a permanent facility of their own was developed. The Brookwood in Georgetown facility has a café and store in front, the greenhouse across the parking lot, and a beautiful workshop in back.

Timothy's Story

Timothy was a victim of a breach birth that killed him. He was resuscitated in the ambulance but was comatose for his first two weeks of life. An inspired stimulation procedure awakens him for the first time and he began a rapid recovery. He was not out of the woods yet as he began to develop seizures at six months beginning with absence seizures and finally developing Grand Mal. He was seen by every pediatric neurological group in Dallas, Fort Worth, and Lubbock Texas. Each of these pediatric neurologists diagnosed him with Infantile Spasms. None of the neurologists agreed on treatment procedures because there are no recommended procedures for this condition. Since the Grand Mal Seizures were having a devastating effect it was agreed to try Injections of ACTH. This is a highly dangerous and experimental approach for a desperate situation. In view of this, he was seen by his family physician to see if he was physically able to handle the procedures. An ear infection was discovered and antibiotics are prescribed which resulted in a complete recovery from his seizure condition. At this point, Timothy had been so ravaged by his condition that he had lost all functionality even the ability to eat. As the years wore on, Timothy regained function to the point that at age 13 he was a year ahead academically in a year ahead neurologically. Then the seizures came back. The hard-fought recovery was lost in a matter of years. The progress of medicine over the years has not yielded any answers for Timothy’s condition but It has revealed one of its components. The seizure disorder he’s experiencing Is not actually a neurological problem – it is actually a metabolic problem. The source continues to elude treatment and Timothy continues to lose functional abilities. He currently lives with His parents in Georgetown Texas and attends the BIG Workshop.
